ICE Detention Numbers Lowest Since Start of Fiscal Year, ICE Expands Use of GPS Smartwatches

| (16 Apr 2024) Immigrant detention numbers are the lowest since the start of the fiscal year in October,
reaching 34,580 according to the latest data released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(ICE) last Friday. The decline in detention numbers comes entirely from fewer numbers of
detainees who are arrested by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which fell from 25,248
two weeks ago to 22,777 in ICE’s current release. CBP encounters along the Southwest Border,
including arrests by Border Patrol between ports of entry, also
declined
from February to March. Meanwhile, detainees arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have
continued to inch upward since the start of the fiscal year, including a minor increase from
11,683 to 11,803 over the past two weeks. See more...

ICE Detention Numbers Decline Slightly to 27,000, GPS Ankle Monitors See Continued Growth

| (01 Apr 2024) The number of detainees held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) dropped to
36,931, a drop of just over 2,000 from the previous detention data released in early March.
Much of this decrease is due to a reported drop in detainees who had been arrested by
Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Between March 10 and March 24, the number of
detainees who had been arrested by CBP fell from 27,623 to 24,248 while detainees arrested by
ICE increased slightly from 11,488 to 11,683. See more...

200,000 Immigration Court Cases Dismissed Because DHS Failed to File Paperwork

| (20 Mar 2024) Approximately 200,000 deportation cases have been thrown out by Immigration Judges since the start of
the Biden administration because the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) hadn’t filed the required
Notice to Appear (NTA) with the Court by the time of the scheduled hearing. Without a proper filing,
the Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case and the immigrants, often asylum seekers, lack a way to

ICE Increases Use of GPS Monitoring for Immigrants in Alternatives to Detention (ATD)

| (15 Mar 2024) Since the start of the Biden administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) increasingly
relied on a smartphone app known as SmartLINK to expand the agency’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD)
program which monitors migrants who are not in detention. This trend coincided with a decrease in the

New Immigration Court Data Show New Cases Continue to Fall

| (13 Mar 2024) According to the latest Immigration Court records, the number of incoming cases
continues to decline. In February 2024 the Immigration Courts received 144,939 new
cases—10,000 fewer cases than arrived during January. This is sharply lower than the
